I had possibly the best smoothie ever on Tuesday morning! The combination was nothing unusual, blueberries and banana, but it was simply delicious!
A whole cup and quarter full of blueberries, a small banana…resulted in this bright purple smoothie which was as much a feast for the eyes as it was the taste buds. Seen as two frozen fruits were in the mix it was deliciously chilled and incredibly thick.
The blueberries, dried and fresh and the chewy banana along with a sprinkling of almonds sat beautifully on top. Served up in one of my latest purchases….nothing like a new bowl to scoop your smoothie out of!
I’ve made blueberry smoothies in the past but I didn’t quite load it up with blueberries as I did on this occasion. I’m a big blueberry fan, fresh, frozen and dried. Frozen blueberries are possibly my favourite of the three. You can always count on them for intense blueberry flavour whereas fresh can be a bit hit and miss; it also helps that they’re about a quarter of the price!
This was the second of my protein smoothies using my new Sunwarrior Vanilla Powder and it was a resounding success. The xanthan gum in the protein powder acts as a great thickener! I made sure to blend it in properly this time around.
I’ve had some good smoothies in my time but I can honestly say that this is one of my all time favourites, be it the blueberries, the banana or both, or perhaps those chewy banana pieces on top which never fail to win me over or the new addition of the Sunwarrior…
Maybe the new bowl just won me over.
It was a smoothie that I just didn’t want to end and if it wasn’t for the fact that it was incredibly filling I would have been tempted to whip up another small batch right there and then. I’m all about variety with my smoothies…but some are just have to be repeated!

Vegan Blueberry and Banana Protein Smoothie
Servings – 1
Preparation Time – 5 minutes
- 175g (1 1/4 cup) frozen blueberries
- 1 large frozen banana
- 310ml (1 1/4 cup) almond milk
- 1 scoop Sunwarrior Vanilla Protein Powder
- 1/2 tbsp maple syrup
- 1 tbsp fresh blueberries
- 5 pieces dried chewy banana
- 1/2 tbsp dried blueberries
- 1/2 tbsp flaked almonds
- Blend together all smoothie ingredients.
- Serve topped with dried and fresh fruit and flaked almonds.
