Apple Pie/Crumble Smoothie #3

[donotprint] I think it’s number three but I’m not 100% sure, to be honest it doesn’t really matter as I’m just going to go with the case of third time lucky!

Apple pie flavour, everyone has a different understanding or interpretation or expectation even (yep it’s the third time lucky again!) of what that is and should be. For me it’s all about tart Bramley apples, sweet raisins and plenty of cinnamon and it just has to be served up with something at least mildly creamy. You’d think this would be quite easy to incorporate in a smoothie but for some reason I haven’t managed to get the balance quite right…

Until now! Aside from all the aforementioned components, I like a bit of caramel like nuttiness in my apple pie (I’m possibly more of a crumble person, favouring a crunchy sweet nutty topping over pastry given half a choice).

Which came first the crumble or the pie? It’s one of those unanswerable and slightly pointless questions, many of which randomly enter my mind over the course of the day…Or so I thought!

I did a bit of Googling and for those of you that care…apple pie came first!

Anyway so this smoothie…it’s for all those apple pie or crumble lovers out there. A smoothie with all your favourite (or mine at least!) adorned with a wonderful array of toppings just like any good smoothie should be!

Apple Pie Smoothie


Servings – 1

Preparation Time – 5 minutes



  • 300ml (1 + 1/4 cup) almond milk
  • 250ml (1 cup) pureed Bramley apple
  • 1/2 small frozen banana
  • 1/2 tbsp chopped pecan nuts
  • 1 tbsp ground flax seeds
  • 1 tbsp golden raisins
  • 1 tsp cinnamon


  • 1/2 tbsp chopped pecan nuts
  • 1/2 tbsp golden raisins diced
  • 2 apple rings diced
  • 1-2 tbsp diced Bramley apple
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp maple syrup
  • Drop of water


  1. Blend together all smoothie ingredients until perfectly smooth.
  2. Place diced Bramley apple for topping, along with maple syrup, drop of water and cinnamon in a pot and simmer over a medium heat for 5-6 minutes until soft.
  3. Serve smoothie topped with apple, pecans, golden raisins, and dried apple.
