Last week I mentioned that my mum picked up the wrong melon, watermelon as opposed to Galia but I managed to make fantastic use of it in a smoothie. Seen as the Galia melons were still on special I made sure to pick up a couple this week; 39c each, sure you wouldn’t get a nice apple for that!

I paired the melon with kiwi and banana which made for quite the refresher! The bright mornings demand something delicious, fruity, cool and creamy.

The combination was delicious. A hint of green, a whole heap full of spinach wouldn’t have gone a miss but I decided to stick with purely fruitiness this morning.

Brazil nuts are quickly becoming one of my favourite nuts. I’ve been giving the pistachios a bit of a rest and chopping up the brazils for sprinkling on top. Deliciously crisp, they retain they’re crunch when stirred right the way through. They have such a rich nutty flavour, I’ve been neglecting them for far too long!

They also go the distance; once chopped 3 or 4 nuts goes a hell of long way. Love a smoothie bowl that has bit of bite in pretty much every mouthful.

Coconut, golden raisins and a refreshing twist of lime…zingy!
There is only one downside to smoothies….they can be a pretty expensive habit when you consider the fruit and protein powder. Not that I don’t think they’re worth it, by god they are, but still it’s nice when you can save a few cent on the fruit end.

I’m not in to my mini smoothies, you need at least 2 cups in order for it be classified as a meal in my books. If it doesn’t fill the bowl when poured I would be sadly disappointed (and I have been known to add more milk and fruit and a little yoghurt, whatever is necessary to bring it up to the rim!)

Pink Refresher or Zingy Galia… I couldn’t possibly choose!

I stocked up on galia melons when they were on offer too, but I’ve only got 1/2 of one left
I love all types of melon, watermelon, honeydew, galia, but I think my favourite is cantaloupe.
Mix it with more kiwi and banana!
This is my first time commenting, but I have been reading your blog and drooling over your smoothie bowls for some time now! This one looks amazing! I have never thought of putting melon in a smoothie, but I love all kinds of melon, so it has to be fantastic! Thanks for the idea!
Awh thanks for commenting Rachel, love hearing from readers, much appreciated! I know me either, now I’m all over melon in smoothies!
This looks positively delicious! I totally agree- melon in smoothies just freshens the whole thing up! And aren’t brazil nuts simply the best? Certainly one of our favourite nuts!
Love em! I’ve been living off pistachios, but Brazils are so good! Super crunchy!
you have inspired me to start sprinkling coconut shreds on my smoothies, even tho i drink them from a glass. it reminds me of as a teenager i would make milkshakes and love the crunch of sprinkles throughout! what is a ghalia melon though? i’m not sure if we have them here in the states. i’ve never heard of it!
It’s a small white flesh melon, green near the skin!
